2017 Cowboys Draft: 6 Injured Prospects Dallas Should Target

Brian Martin

TE Jake Butt

Jake Butt, Tight end

With the future Hall of Famer Jason Witten in the last year of his contract and nearing retirement, the Dallas Cowboys need to find his successor sooner rather than later. That replacement could be the former Michigan star, Jake Butt.

Butt would have likely been a consideration in the first round, but unfortunately he tore his ACL in his final collegiate game. That is why he has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys so often this entire off-season and it is definitely a possibility now with the recent news that he is ahead of schedule with his rehabilitation.

In a recent interview, Butt said he could be ready as early as July (six months after his injury) or sometime in October (nine months after his injury). That could be both good and bad for the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys would’ve likely preferred to draft him with their third-round draft pick, but they may have to use their second round selection instead.

Do any these prospects make sense for the Dallas Cowboys?
