Dallas Cowboys’ foundation is built for the future
If you need a reason for optimism, and you probably do after watching the Cowboys fall short of defeating the Green Bay Packers, then look no further than the foundation head coach Jason Garrett has put together for the Dallas Cowboys.
Tyron Smith was the first offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round in the Jerry Jones era for the Cowboys. This selection started the foundation upon which the Cowboys have built their success.
They continued to draft offensive lineman in the first round of the next few drafts with Zack Martin and Travis Frederick, thus creating the best offensive line in the NFL.
With Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, and Travis Frederick creating a strong foundation to build upon, it created the perfect place for two rookies to come in and have MVP caliber seasons.
Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott couldn’t have possibly asked for a better situation to find themselves in. Playing behind this offensive line maximized their skill sets and helped them earn their first trip to the Pro Bowl in their first year in the NFL.
Then, you sprinkle in arguably one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Dez Bryant, and add Cole Beasley to the mix, it creates one of the best offensive units in the entire NFL.
Defensively the Cowboys could definitely use some help, but they do have some young players that will help in the rebuilding process.
Anthony Brown proved that he can be a starting CB in the NFL. Byron Jones excelled in his first year as a safety. Maliek Collins will be a starter in the middle of the Cowboys defensive line next season. Sean Lee once again proved why he is one of the best linebackers in the NFL when he can remain healthy, and let’s not forget he will have Jaylon Smith playing beside him next season.
The Cowboys foundation is all but set and will only improve through free agency and the draft.
Feeling a little bit better yet?
