2. Quarterbacks are deep this year
Whichever site you use, although the rankings are different for each, the players are obviously the same. Personally, I use ESPN, so here are their top 15 QBs:
- Peyton Manning
- Aaron Rodgers
- Drew Brees
- Matthew Stafford
- Cam Newton
- Andrew Luck
- Robert Griffin III
- Nick Foles
- Colin Kaepernick
- Russell Wilson
- Matt Ryan
- Tom Brady
- Tony Romo
- Phillip Rivers
- Jay Cutler
Theoretically, in a 12 team league, you could be the very last person to take a QB and still end up with your choice of Tom Brady or Tony Romo.
The usual logic goes something like, “Peyton Manning and Drew Brees score the most points, so obviously I need to draft them first.” No. Some of the QBs on waivers will be scoring 20+ most weeks. Now I know Manning had a ridiculous season last year, but his offense got weaker while the defense got better, so it’s really not even a debate that his fantasy numbers will drop in 2014.
No matter how tempting it is, you should not draft him – or any QB – in the first two rounds; not unless you’re in like a 2 QB or 6 point passing TD league.
Think of it this way, would I rather have Eddie Lacy and Tony Romo, or Peyton Manning and Danny Woodhead? I’m going QB in rounds 7-9.
Really wish I would have read this before I drafted this morning. Passed on Rudolph for not knowing much about him. Did manage to get Romo and Seahawks D though. Good read bro.
