Here’s a list of the starting positions I think are locked up before we go to training camp.

Jerry and Stephen Jones must just smile from ear to ear when they think about how set their offense is. Almost every starting position is set and they still have a couple of weeks before the team leaves for Oxnard California for training camp. However, I seriously doubt those smiles are as big when they consider their starting defense. As a matter of fact, no smiles were to be found in the organization when Sean Lee went down during OTAs. Already with injuries this year, and coming off such an unspectacular performance last year, the Cowboys are just brimming with questions regarding defensive position battles.

The offense has 10 of 11 starting positions in the base formation set. The same can’t be said for the defense, and it isn’t even close.

Things being what they are right now, I’m going to say there are four starting spots locked up when the team lines up in its 4- 3 base defense. And that’s a generous number if you ask me.

One perspective is that training camp and the preseason are sure to be interesting with up to seven starting spots up for grabs. But here’s some good news about those open positions; a lot of talented players will be fighting for those jobs.

So with that in mind, let’s get started with the one position that a lot of fans have been wondering about since DeMarcus Ware was released.
