Auburn vs Alabama Key Matchup

Patrick Conn

The Iron Bowl has a lot riding on this game. Not only is it one of the best college football rivalries, BCS Championship implications but a lot of good matchups from a NFL Draft Standpoint. With all of the turmoil in the Heisman debate A.J. McCarron’s name has been tossed in. Yes he has had quite the career as he is in pursuit of his fourth BCS Championship Ring but this isn’t a career award. That is taking nothing away from him, phenomenal leader and quarterback.

Tre Mason is having a career season with 208 carries and 1,153 yards to go along with his 17 touchdowns. He will be facing his toughest challenge to date. Last year against the eventual National Champions he managed 82 yards on 21 carries (3.9 YPC average) in a 49-0 beatdown. This year he has been a workhorse doubling his 100 yard games (6) from a year ago.

The Alabama defense has been as advertised, the best defense in the SEC and the nation. Their only blemish on the schedule has been the Texas A&M game in which Johnny Manziel torched them for a second straight season. They have only given up 5.5 points per game since the early matchup with the Aggies. This defense in only giving up 91.3 yards per game and 172 yards passing. The only thing this defense doesn’t do is force many turnovers.

Tre Mason vs CJ Mosely is my matchup to watch.
