After three games some teams haven’t lived up to expectations, from a fantasy football perspective. However, here’s a list of some teams and players I think will be fine in the long run and would try to buy for cheap.
New England Patriots
I mean, it’s the Patriots, the NFL’s steady yearly winner. Dating back to their Super Bowl win in 2001, they’ve only missed the playoffs twice; 2002 in which they won 9 games, and 2008 in which they won 11 games. I know an opening day loss to the Dolphins and barely beating the Raiders by 7 last week doesn’t sound encouraging, but I think that offense will find it’s spark soon.
Gronk is slowly making his way to 100% health-wise and that offense revolves around him. I own him in all leagues, but if you can, buy him in your league – I’m sure he wouldn’t cost too much at this point considering his potential.
Also, if you have an iffy QB situation I’m sure Brady wouldn’t cost much considering his poor performance thus far. Vereen and Ridley are also guys you could get on the cheap who I think will have nice fantasy seasons. Ridley has gotten 44 carries the past two games so it’s just a matter of time before he starts racking up TDs, and after watching the first game it’s easy to see Vereen could be very valuable, especially in PPR leagues.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers offense hasn’t looked very dynamic through 3 games; their running game especially hasn’t done anything, but they’ve faced the Seahawks, Jets, and Lions.
Through 3 games, the Jets lead the league in rushing defense – only giving up 105 yards, The Lions are 4th – only giving up 163 rushing yards, and the Seahawks are 5th – only giving up 201 yards. I’m so confident Eddie Lacy’s slow start was only due to great defense, I just traded away Dez Bryant and Khiry Robinson for him and Percy Harvin in one league.
Aaron Rodgers is another guy I would try to get if the owner is willing to bail.
Detroit Lions
I’m buying Joique Bell and Matthew Stafford if I can, I think the Lions offense will be much more explosive than they’ve shown the past two weeks. Stafford should put up some big numbers once the offense gels like it should and Bell has gotten 40 carries through 3 games so he could be a very nice buy-low after this week.
Jacksonville Jaguars
I know, I know, the 0-3 Jags have looked terrible through 3 games, but I don’t believe it’s due to lack of offensive weapons. Chad Henne hasn’t play well and they have a flat-out awful offensive line. But Blake Bortles makes his first start today and watching them both in preseason, it’s easy to see he has much more talent than Henne. If he plays well, defenses will have to respect the pass and not only will the WRs put up more points, but Toby Gerhart should start putting up respectable numbers.
Don’t buy into the Hurns hype after his 2 TD game 1, he was simply filling in since Cecil Shorts and fellow rookie Allen Robinson were hurt. That’s the rookie I would buy at this point; Robinson is 6’3 220lbs and posted a 39 inch vertical at his combine. Given the opportunity, I think he could make some big plays. Snatch him and Gerhart off the waiver wire if you can.
