Streets Ahead

If you are not a fan of the show Friday Night Lights then stop reading this, pop open Netflix, snag a sixer of Mountain Dew, and enjoy yourself some high quality television. Amidst your travels to Dillon, Texas you’ll become acquainted with various personalities…one of whom is Jason Street aka “Six”. The quarterback prodigy turned Olympic athlete sort of turned sports agent (spoiler alert) is best known around the bowels of Dillon High simply as “Street”. While this is all fine and dandy he isn’t even the most impressive Street in the Lone Star State.

The man I’m touting hails all the way from Bethlehem (this is a town in Pennsylvania…I’m not talking about Jesus) and his birth certificate reads Devin Curtis Street. He’s 6’3”, 198 pounds, and was the 5th round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.

Devin didn’t contribute that much to the NFC East Champion Cowboys in 2014, catching 2 passes on 7 looks for a total of 18 yards. And while even Matt Saracen saw more production as a pass catcher, Devin has a lot to be excited about.

During his time as a Pitt Panther (for what it’s worth, Jason Street was a Dillon Panther…just saying) Street put up:

  • 2010 – 25 catches for 318 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • 2011 – 53 catches for 754 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • 2012 – 73 catches for 975 yards and 5 touchdowns
  • 2013 – 51 catches for 854 yards and 7 touchdowns

Street fits the NFL mold has improved a lot since his rookie year, according to wide receivers coach Derek Dooley. Dooley has said on many occasions that had Street seen the same amount of looks his rookie year that Terrance Williams did that he’d be generating some serious buzz. With Dwayne Harris defecting to the New York Giants, and with Dez Bryant absent for some of the recent OTAs Street has seen a lot of action. The Cowboys have done a great job at finding receivers through all avenues. Dez Bryant was a first round draft pick and Miles Austin was completely undrafted. This front office has an eye for talent at the wide receiver position, and Devin Street seems to be the next guy up to prove that.

Get pumped, Street…I mean 15. Buddy Garrity and co. are all praising your name and are excited to see what you do in 2015.
