Holdout Over: Cowboys Welcome Back Jeremy Mincey

RJ Ochoa

This past weekend was all about short-lived dreams:

  • My refraining from fried foods.
  • Bethe Correia’s pride.
  • The Eagles fan base’s dignity (Thanks to Greg Hardy).

The lone dream that managed to squeak its way through to reality was Jeremy Mincey’s… kind of. Mincey had been holding out of Cowboys Training Camp, accumulating a whopping $120,000 in fines along the way, in hopes of obtaining a new contract.

While the Cowboys ultimately did not meet that specific request they did still show Mincey some love. The Cowboys agreed to add $500,000 to Mincey’s current contract, which expires after the 2015 season, which was enough to please Mr. Mince.

Mincey is coming off a 2014 season where his 6 sacks led the team and he fell just 11 snaps short of picking up that $500k in an escalator clause in his contract.

It was widely speculated Saturday night that an agreement between both sides was imminent as Jeremy was planning to meet with Stephen Jones and Jason Garrett Sunday morning. That meeting did indeed happen and Coach Garrett said that he was excited to have Mincey there.

While this may not be the exact deal that he was looking for, Jeremy Mincey and the Cowboys are both happy… and it’s time to get to work.
