Dez Bryant: Does Talent Outweigh Emotional Leadership?

Shane Denney

Dez Bryant is the heart and soul of the Dallas Cowboys. No one will deny that he is one of the top talents in the league, and the emotional leader of the team. They are a completely different team with him on the field and in the locker room.

No matter where he lines up on the field, opponents have to know where he’s at and what he can accomplish at any given time.

With the way the roster currently sits, is there a player on offense that would cause opposing teams’ defensive coordinators to game plan for that one player?

Can T. Williams end with a season of 90 rec, 1300 yards, and 14 Touchdowns? Bryant’s averages of the last 3 seasons.

With as good as this offensive line is, can they continue to open up running lanes against an 8 and at times 9 man front?

When he’s on the sideline he is encouraging teammates, talking to coaches, and bringing up the intensity level.

He knows the cameras are rolling and the focus is on his reactions, but it doesn’t matter—if something needs to be said or an action needs taken, he gets it done.

Is newly acquired Greg Hardy going to be the guy going down the sideline telling teammates they are the best and going to win the game late in the 4th quarter?

Does Randle start a physical encounter at the start of training camp each year to set the tone?

The Cowboys fans, coaching staff, and front office are very lucky as we get a talented, emotional leader bundled in a 6’2, 220-pound frame and he wears #88. The one thing we’ve all learned about Bryant is whether it is minicamp or game day, he always brings it 110%.

So the question is this: Does talent outweigh emotional leadership?

I’d have to say yes.

If I had to choose to have one over the other, give me talent all day long. The culture that has been built by Jason Garrett and the Cowboys organization would be able to move forward without the emotional leadership of Dez.

If you had to choose between talent and emotional leadership, which would it be? Let us know in the comments below.
