2015 Cowboys Fantasy Football Outlook: Tony Romo

Sean Martin

Wrapping up my fantasy previews by taking a look at Cowboys signal-caller Tony Romo. Romo is currently ranked ninth overall among all QBs on NFL.com.

He was drafted in the seventh round of my first mock draft.

Cowboys Blog - 2015 Cowboys Fantasy Football Outlook: Tony Romo It is no secret that Romo will once again have a fully stocked arsenal to work with, in wide receivers Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams, tight ends Jason Witten and Gavin Escobar and running backs Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden.

Romo is coming off of a season in which he threw for 3,704 yards and 34 touchdowns – the latter being his highest total since 2007. These stats made him the eleventh highest scoring QB last season on NFL.com.

Romo should be poised for a big-time fantasy output this season, and it starts with the Cowboys’ red zone numbers in 2014.

Now Philadephia Eagle DeMarco Murray ran the ball inside the twenty a total of 56 times for 12 TDs last season.

Tony Romo threw it 50 times for 19 touchdowns.

Eight of those RZ scoring passes were to Dez Bryant, who doubled that total to finish with 16 in 2014.

These stats prove that Romo not only has a reliable red zone target to boost his stats but a WR in Dez Bryant that has big play capability.

Speedster Terrance Williams has also shown the ability to take any catch to the house, and will play a major role in the offense this season.

With Murray gone, I expect the Cowboys to rely on Romo much more often – particularly in the red zone. Fantasy owners can sit back and watch #9 work his magic, throwing to whoever he pleases.

When a team has multiple “mouths to feed” in the red zone, the fantasy winner is always the QB. You can also compliment Romo by finding Williams or Witten late in the draft.

If you can’t land Dez Bryant, consider the next best thing to be Tony Romo. I expect his initial seventh round stock to rise, and you may see him drafted as early as the fifth round.

Stay tuned for an updated mock draft to see where all the Cowboys stack up as your fantasy draft approaches!
