Prepare yourselves; this is going to be the slowest week that we have experienced in quite some time. Why’s that? Because the Dallas Cowboys begin their 2015 season THIS SUNDAY at home against the New York Giants!

Sunday is 6 days from now, and as we have since there were 99 days between us and the sweet taste of football… we’re going to get going with our Countdown to Kickoff featuring the Greatest 6 in Dallas Cowboys History.

The Following Players Have All Worn 6 For The Dallas Cowboys:

  • Nick Folk, K
  • Chris Jones*, P
  • Tim Seder, K
  • Shaun Suisham, K
  • Luis Zendejas, K

*Active player on the Dallas Cowboys roster

The 2007 NFL Draft is most remembered for producing one of the biggests busts in NFL History… number one overall pick JaMarcus Russell. 177 picks after him in the 6th round the Dallas Cowboys picked themselves an Arizona Wildcat who would become the Greatest 6 in Dallas Cowboys History.

Nick Folk

The upside down number nine (that’s a 6 for all of you lost!) became the starting kicker for the Dallas Cowboys during his rookie year in 2007. In a season where the Cowboys went 13-3, Folk was 53/53 on extra points and 26/31 on field goals.

Folk’s biggest moment of his Cowboy career actually came during his fourth game with a Star on his helmet. With the Cowboys in Buffalo for a Monday Night Football contest, things were dramatic all night as Tony Romo threw 5 interceptions.

The game came down to a 53-yard field goal attempt as the Cowboys trailed the Bills 22-24. Folk booted it through and Cowboys fans everywhere celebrated, but had to hold off for a second.

This was right around the time when calling timeouts just before the ball was snapped was becoming very popular throughout the NFL. Bills coach Dick Jauron indeed called timeout, and Folk needed to reload and try again. Just like the first time Nick’s field goal was good, and the Cowboys won a thriller.

In his post-game press conference, Terrell Owens said that Nick Folk made a 106-yard field goal to win the game. When facing perplexed faces he simply said, “he kicked it twice!”.

#6: Nick Folk

The Cowboy career of Nick Folk only lasted 3 years, a span in which he went 64/81 on field goals. Since then Nick Folk has continued his football career with the New York Jets where he currently serves as their primary kicker.

It’s hard to make a Pro Bowl in the NFL, and it’s especially hard to do it as a rookie. Nick Folk accomplished this on his way to becoming the Greatest 6 in Dallas Cowboys History.

Check back tomorrow to find out who the Greatest 5 in Dallas Cowboys History is!
