Filling The Dez Void: Cowboys Anticipate Wide Receiver Signing

Walter Yeates

At his Monday Press Conference, Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett announced the team anticipates signing a Wide Receiver to help fill in for the injured Dez Bryant. Premilinary expectations have Dez missing anywhere between four and six weeks.

He did not say whether they would sign either Vince Mayle or Rodney Smith from the Practice Squad, sign a receiver from another Practice Squad, or look for a currently unsigned veteran. There are some interesting names out there and we will have more information as the story develops.

I would not expect them to bring in a name player here as they are likely looking for a body that can line up on the outside until Dez is able to return.

The player that would make the most sense is AJ Jenkins as he spent camp with the team and is familiar with the system. Ryan Broyles is also someone that may get a look since he has connections with Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan.
