Cowboys Vs Giants Players Of The Game

I don’t know about you, but opening night had to be one of the strangest, up and down games that I’ve witnessed in a long time. Now that everyone’s blood pressure has lowered to a comfortable level, we can move forward.

Offensive Player Of The Game Tony Romo

The choice at least for myself was tougher than some may think. At first, I thought about going with the whole offensive line that gave Tony Romo all day in the pocket. Jason Witten came through with two touchdowns, one of which was the game-winner. But ultimately the choice had to be none other than Mr. Romo himself.

Romo finished the game completing 36 of 45 pass attempts for 356 yards and 3 touchdowns, ending the game with a QBR rating of 103.3.

Good old number 9 once again silenced his critics (not really, that will never happen), with a game–winning 6 play, 72 yard drive, with under two minutes left on the clock without All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant.

He did have two interceptions, neither of which were really his fault. The pass to Witten was a bit behind him and the ball bounced off of Witten’s hand and into the arms of Giants defender Uani’ Unga. The other should have been a completion to Devin Street, but the ball was popped loose by a Giants defender and landed in the arms of Trumaine McBride.

In the end, Romo led his team to a 76-yard game winning drive, and that wins it.

Defensive Player Of The Game Sean Lee

Once again, a tough choice. Tyrone Crawford was awfully good. He recorded the Cowboys only sack of the game. However, playing his first game in over a year, Sean Lee led the defense with 9 tackles–one of which was a tackle for loss.

Lee did appear a bit rusty to begin the game, but that’s to be expected since he hadn’t seen the field since December of 2013. As the game progressed, Lee started to show why he is the leader of the Cowboys defense.

Rookie Of The Game Randy Gregory

La’el Collins, Geoff Swaim and Ryan Russell were all inactive for the game. I only heard Byron Jones’ name called one time, which is a good thing for a cornerback. And, even though his night ended in the third quarter, I’ve got to go with Randy Gregory.

Pro Football Focus gave Gregory a rating of +2.8, making him the highest rated Cowboys defender. In the 21 snaps in which Gregory played, he recorded three quarterback hurries and one quarterback hit.

Unfortunately, the high-ankle sprain Gregory suffered will keep him out for a reported 4-6 weeks. The bright side is that he will return around the same time as Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain to help the Cowboys defense.
