The 2015 Dallas Cowboys began their quest for a sixth Lombardi Trophy and 20th NFC East title with a 27-26 win over the New York Giants. The Philadelphia Eagles also began their season looking for their first Lombardi and 10th NFC East title. However, they started with a 26-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
With the two teams preparing to face each other this upcoming Sunday, now is a good time to take a look back at some series history.
For the third time in team history, the Cowboys will start the regular season against division rivals New York and Philadelphia. After Sunday’s win over New York, the Cowboys are now 5-0 when beginning the regular season against the Giants and Eagles. And have outscored their rivals 123-63.
This week’s game will also be the second time that the Cowboys have faced the Eagles on September 20th–the first resulting in a 17-7 Cowboys victory in 1970.
Dallas has faced Philadelphia 108 times in the regular season while maintaining a 60-48 series lead. The two teams have also met 4 times in the playoffs which increases the lead to 63-49. The 63 wins against Philly, ranks 2nd in all-time Cowboys victories versus an opponent; trailing only the Washington Redskins (65).
A victory would improve the Cowboys current regular season road winning streak to 10 games dating back to December 22, 2013, game at Washington. And, would also give the Cowboys their 4th straight win in Philadelphia.
Since 2013, when Chip Kelly was named head coach of the Eagles, the teams have split their first four matchups, each going 2-2.
Player Notes Vs The Eagles
Tony Romo–QB
As the starter, Romo has compiled an 8-6 record, completed 61.6% of pass attempts, and has thrown for 3,289 yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. In the lone playoff game, he completed 23 of 35 for 244 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Dan Bailey–K
Is perfect on eight field goal attempts and 21 point-after attempts.
Cole Beasley–WR
Recorded six passes caught for 53 yards in his first ever career start in 2013 at Philadelphia. His career against Philly is now six games with 17 receptions for 159 yards.
Jason Witten–TE
Witten has gathered in 133 passes, totalling 1,493 yards and seven touchdowns in 23 games.
Tyrone Crawford-DT
Crawford picked up his first career sack and first forced fumble against Philly on Thanksgiving day. He then recorded his first multi-sack game against Philly in December.
Brandon Carr-CB
Carr has played six games against the Eagles in a Cowboys uniform, posting 19 tackles and two interceptions. One of which he returned 47 yards for a touchdown, his first ever.
I could go on and on for days, with proven facts of why Dallas has been the superior franchise of the two.
