Big Moments From Cowboys Week 5 Loss To Patriots

RJ Ochoa

When you lose 30-6 it’s unlikely that there is anything to celebrate. To be perfectly honest, there isn’t much.

The Cowboys did hang with the World Champs for a while last Sunday, but before they knew it the Patriots had jumped out so far ahead it was impossible to catch up.

There were a few moments that should be celebrated though, and that’s what we’re here to do. These were the bright spots throughout the game that kept us in it and give us the most promise looking forward at the post-bye version of the Cowboys.

Sacks Coming

During the Patriots first offensive possession they were facing a steep third down. Tom Brady dropped back, assessed the fi-WHOA HE GOT SACKED!

Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy, playing for the first time in 2015, had a party and the meeting spot was the quarterback.

This was a big moment for the Cowboys as the game was very young and it helped set the tone that the defense would have throughout the first half of the game. The Cowboys were on a mission to pressure Brady, and they were firing at will.

Cowboys fans should be very excited for the remaining 11 games of the season as these two are going to have far more parties with similar meeting spots throughout this run.

Greg Hardy Shows Up

The Kraken was officially released on Sunday and he let Tom Brady know it. After having already taken Tommy down with Rolando McClain, Hardy made a big play all by himself.

With the Patriots inside their own 30 Hardy beat his man and raced for Brady. With the quarterback’s arm still behind him, Hardy batted the ball out and took Brady down with him.

The ball was out for what felt like forever, but ultimately Julian Edelman came down with it. This was a potentially game changing play for the Cowboys for if they had recovered it they would have had the ball already within field goal range.

These are the kinds of plays that Greg Hardy was brought in to make. It’s great to see that in his first game he is already having a major impact on the football field.

Devin Street Gets Down

Late in the third quarter the Cowboys mounted what was arguably their best drive of the day. After crossing midfield the Cowboys faced a 3rd and 12. With no Dez Bryant, Brandon Weeden went to a young up-and-coming Cowboy who we’ve had our eye on.

Weeden went left and found Devin Street. #15 was near the sidelines and managed to drop his body low, tapping the turf with his knees before falling out of bounds.

This was a pivotal play on the drive for without it the Cowboys would have most likely punted. It was probably the biggest catch of the season for Devin Street. Perhaps it can serve as a boost of confidence for the second year receiver out of Pittsburgh as the Cowboys will need every offensive weapon in their arsenal if they look to make some noise after the bye week.

Run, Randle, Run

The very next play after Street stayed in bounds, Joseph Randle had a highlight of his own. He bursted through the Patriots defenders, gave a little shake, and before he knew it was past the first down marker.

Randle showed the burst through the gap that we’ve seen from him before, and was a hair away from out-shimmying Devin McCourty.

These are the types of plays that Cowboys fans have been looking to see Randle make throughout games, and not just at random moments. Hopefully the transition to Matt Cassel will yield more positive results for Randle as he looks to find all of the meat on the bone of the 2015 season.
