For weeks now, Cowboys Cast host Bobby Belt has been persistent in his unpopular stance of wishing the Cowboys would bench Tony Romo even upon his eligibility to return.
Of course, Cowboys Nation mostly found this notion absurd, anxiously awaiting Romo to return and end the madness that was a seven-game losing streak produced by Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel.
Romo delivered us one win, before going down for the season with another clavicle injury against the Panthers – producing the Cowboys 2015 Funeral Show – yesterday’s Cowboys Cast:
Bobby made a great point in that while having Romo start the game may not have been as crazy, having him in a position to be injured while down 24 points late in the third quarter was.
Hindsight is 20/20, and I’ll be the first to admit that watching on Thanksgiving prior to his injury the thought of him exiting never crossed my mind.
However, the Cowboys do not play again until December 7th, which could have meant a ten-day break from today for Romo if he left the game to prepare for some sort of a “stretch-run” at 3-8.
Instead, the Cowboys are now stuck looking ahead to 2016, at 3-8 and being led by Matt Cassel for the remainder of the season. A season that began with so much hope has officially crumbled before us.
If the Cowboys followed Bobby’s original plan, a sliver of hope may have been that we could look forward to a well rested Romo in 2016. Instead, the aging signal callers’ window becomes closer to closed – entering an offseason of question marks.
