2015 NFC East Winner Likely to be Worst Ever

Sean Martin

The Dallas Cowboys are 3-8. Twelve weeks. Eleven games. Three wins.

And still, with a win on this upcoming Monday night against Washington paired with a Giants loss to the Jets and Eagles loss at New England (yeah, I think we’ll get that) they will be just one game behind first place.

This year’s division has been indescribably bad, which has frustrated Cowboys fans endlessly when daydreaming about the possibilities of a fully healthy Dallas team steamrolling this division.

In fact, the lowest win total from an NFC East winner in its history has been nine. The 2011 New York Giants became the first team to win the Super Bowl with less than ten wins, after winning the East by a game over the 8-8 Cowboys and Eagles.

Currently, the 5-6 Giants and Redskins can afford to lose just one more game the rest of the way out if they want to get to that nine win plateau. The Eagles would have to win out, and that’s just simply not happening.

As we well know, the best record the Cowboys can achieve would be 8-8.

With tough schedules remaining for New York and Washington, we will likely see the worst ever NFC East winner in 2015. It seems almost poetic for a season that has broken into so many pieces for the Cowboys to be surrounded by a historically dysfunctional division.

Will we see another improbable Super Bowl run out of a lousy 2015 division winner? I can’t speak to the other three teams completely, but the Eagles are being coached by Chip Kelly, the Giants defense has been a mess, and the Redskins haven’t won on the road yet this year.

So, what I’m saying is that if the Cowboys win this then THEY will win the Super Bowl?

Matt Cassel is our starting quarterback, I’m not getting my hopes up.
