With the latest video releasing of Johnny Manziel noticeably intoxicated, the Cleveland Browns might be looking to separate ties with the former Texas A&M superstar. The sad thing is that Manziel showed promise the week he started against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Dallas Cowboys have been a mess this season and the main reason because of that has been the playoff their backup quarterbacks in the absence of Tony Romo.
In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cowboys made the wise decision to start Zack Martin over Johnny Manziel. Martin has immediately made himself known in the NFL, as he is already an All-Pro offensive guard. Nevertheless, Jerry Jones was a big advocate of Manziel during the 2014 pre-draft season. That said, if Manziel does become available this offseason, the Cowboys will definitely be ones to have interest. Here’s why that will be a horrible idea.
Similar to Tim Tebow, if one thing goes wrong with Tony Romo, there will be a ton of noise for the team to replace Manziel. It sounds ridiculous because of how good Tony Romo is and how unproven Manziel is, but there will be people who will dismiss Romo and say that Manziel is the better option. Ridiculous I know, but there will be those people.
The biggest thing I’m scared of regarding Manziel is how he would perform as the quarterback of the Cowboys. By coming back to Texas, Manziel will be coming home. Texas is the place where most of his friends and where most of his backers are. This reminds me of Todd Marinovich.
When Marinovich was drafted by the Oakland Raiders, he stayed near the drugs he got addicted to in college and he stayed near the same people who are known as his friends. If Manziel returns to Dallas, he’ll be coming home to the place where he got away with things and left on a bad note. Manuel may still have a career in the NFL, but that place can’t be Dallas.
