With last week’s loss to the New York Jets the Dallas Cowboys were officially eliminated from contention for first place in their division. Considering the records of the other teams in the NFC they were also eliminated from any kind of playoff contention.
As the Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East in 2014 this means that they failed in their title defense. The division is now a three-horse race between the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants.
The current division standings are:

The Redskins pulled ahead in this race last week as their victory over the Buffalo Bills was the lone one in the division. The Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants all lost to the Jets, Cardinals, and Panthers respectively.
This gave Washington a great opportunity this week. With a win over the Eagles on NFL Network’s Saturday Night Football this week they will secure the division championship, rendering their game with us next week moot.
It was actually a Saturday Night (technically early afternoon) Football matchup between these very two teams last season that aided in the Cowboys’ division championship as the Eagles loss combined with the Cowboys win the next day over the Colts was enough to wrap things up. That feels like oh so long ago.
Should the Eagles win, something they were unable to do in this game last year, they would remain alive in this race as they will face the New York Giants next week in the regular season finale.
Life doesn’t get any easier for those New York Giants this week as they’re taking on one of the league’s hotter teams – the Minnesota Vikings. Things will be particularly tough because as of now they will be without their most potent offensive weapon, and new face of the franchise, Odell Beckham Jr. thanks to his inability to control himself last week against the Panthers… resulting in a one game suspension.
The Giants would need to win against the Vikings and have the Redskins lose to keep things relevant around the Big Apple for another week. Such a tall task is going to be even more difficult without their star receiver, thank goodness the NFL has outlawed bats for his sake.
America’s Team will be traveling to Buffalo for the first time since an epic Monday Night Football contest back in 2007. If you don’t remember the game then let me just sum it up for you like this: Tony Romo turned the ball over, but he made the plays that counted and Nick Folk kicked a “106-yard” field goal for the walk-off win.
These Bills are a completely different team, though. Rex Ryan’s bunch has shown signs of promise at times this season, but shown signs of being a Rex Ryan-coached team at others. It’s hard to guess which Bills team will show up, but if these Cowboys have been consistent at anything this season its been helping teams fix whatever problems they’ve got.
Here come the Bills.
