One of the main reasons the Dallas Cowboys are 4-11 has been the play they’ve received from the quarterback position. When Tony Romo went down in Week 2 with the left clavicle injury, Brandon Weeden was inserted into the starting lineup and after three losses with him as the starter, the Cowboys decided to give Matt Cassel the starting gig. In seven starts, the Cowboys were just 1-6 with Cassel and after an ugly showing against the New York Jets, the Cowboys decided to make the switch to Kellen Moore just midway through the game.
The quarterback position is obviously a big concern in Dallas. With Romo aging, on top of his back concerns and the left clavicle being injured three times, the Cowboys have to start to look into the prospects of adding a quarterback for the future. Over the past two weeks, I’ve started my draft analysis and the first two players I analyzed were both quarterbacks. I looked at both Paxton Lynch and Jared Goff. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll continue to analyze players that fit positions of need for the Cowboys.
Despite the Cowboys’ need to find Romo’s successor, it has to be said that Moore hasn’t played so poorly over the past game and a half. Sure his numbers aren’t terrific, but Moore has shown more than both Weeden and Cassel showed.
While the Cowboys will have a top-5 pick in the draft, one option may be to draft a quarterback like Lynch or Goff, but the Cowboys have Super Bowl aspirations in 2016 and because of that, a guy that can make a more immediate impact might be the route the Cowboys choose to go. If that’s the decision, a guy like Laquon Treadwell, Joey Bosa, or even Jalen Ramsey all make sense.
Drafting a quarterback in the first round will mean that the Cowboys will be drafting a guy that won’t play, that is unless Romo gets injured. Moore isn’t the future at the quarterback position, but he’s a guy that can come in and do what is needed. The quarterback class isn’t strong in this year’s draft.
If the Cowboys want to wait until the 2017 NFL Draft to find their quarterback of the future, it might make more sense. Moore is a stopgap solution at the backup quarterback position. Before drafting a quarterback just to draft one, the Cowboys need make sure he’s capable of being a starting quarterback for the next 10-15 years. Whether Goff or Lynch are capable of doing that has yet to be seen.

It's not guarantee, that the Cowboys will be in position to draft Romo's heir apparent in 2017. If I'm the Cowboys, I think drafting a quarterback, in the 1st round, you have Romo`s heir apparent, while still trying to make a run for the Super Bowl, under Romo, still makes sense, and the Cowboys will be able to draft some quality players for other positions to make an impact, especially, if the 2 quarterbacks you mentioned are still available while the Cowboys are on the clock, I would take the quarterback.
It's that logic that got the Cowboys into this mess. Quit messing around. Draft a 1st round QB and groom him to be the starter. Think long term, and maybe short term if Romo get's hurt again. Like Marilyn said, there is no guarantee that the Cowboys will be in position to draft a QB high in 2017.
My understanding is that there are not that good of QBs in the 2016 class so Dallas may have to come up with a different plan for Romo's replacement or wait for 2017. I like your support of K Moore as a backup. I think he will improve a lot from here. He is a master at pocket passing but in a non-NFL QB body. So far in the NY Jets and Buffalo games his physical limitations including lacking a strong arm have not been much of an issue. This bodes well for K Moore as this is the main thing that kept him from being the #1 draft pick in his class and a star in the NFL by now. Based on his college production/performance he is an outstanding pocket passer that has only partially shown up in the NY Jets and Buffalo games. He will get a lot better as long as his physical limitations don't get in the way and they haven't so far. I think he needs more 1st team reps, more experience against 1st team defenses and more experience in general and he will continue to grow/improve. I expect a better game from him against the Redskins.
Why overreach for a QB in the first round just for the sake of taking a QB! Many of scouts of said QB quality not as good!

You have to take with a grain of salt the "expert" opinions that the quarterbacks in this draft aren't very good. It's impossible to know what they actually mean when they say that.
Does it mean Goff and Lynch aren't NFL-ready right out of the gate? That's not a problem because the Cowboys already have a starting quarterback they can learn behind for a year or two.
Does it mean they aren't projected to be good quarterbacks in the NFL at all? Then why does every Mock Draft out there have Goff selected in the top 5?
We'll have a lot more digging to do to find out if one of these top quarterbacks can be developed into a franchise quarterback. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but keep in mind that (outside of Tom Brady) teams that win Super Bowls usually got their quarterbacks in the top two rounds. It's just a fact.
