Dallas Cowboys 2016 NFL Draft: Dwayne Washington Film Review

Ryan Ratty

When Bishop Sankey left just two years, much of the University of Washington hype went with him. Key players such as Sankey, Kasen Williams, Hau’oli Kikaha all left for the NFL, leaving Washington without much star talent. However, a man named Dwayne Washington became the man for, oddly enough, Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Washington has faced a ton of adversity. Despite being blessed with awesome size and awesome speed at 4.4 speed to go with his frame, he’s dealt with a ton of knee injuries. Teams are going to be looking into a ton of medical tests with him, but if his injuries check out, Washington is a guy that may be taken later than people think because his injury history will keep teams from picking him. Let’s take a look at the film and see how Washington projects to the NFL.

Washington’s ability to bull through holes and kick it to second gear when he gets downfield is pretty impressive.

This is a really impressive run. Washington hits the hole with ease, but he uses some excellent vision to get around the edge. He then uses his home-run speed to put six points on the board.

As you could guess with his size, Washington is a tough guy to bring down. In this clip, he runs through three guys, having them bounce off him as he runs downfield.

Because there’s not a lot of film available on Washington, the injury history obviously playing a part in that, it’s hard to get a fully evaluation of what we can expect out of him at the next level. What I can say is that he can be an interesting prospect if all of his medical tests check out.

How would Washington fit in Dallas? Obviously it’s hard to make a judgment, but I think Washington is a good that would be a good option in Dallas as a preferred free agent. Washington’s combination of power and speed really does make an intriguing case for many schemes, one of them being the Cowboys’ zone-blocking scheme.

Games watched: Oregon State and Arizona (2014).
