There is no question that the New York Giants defense is in desperate need of help at all three levels. The Giants ranked 24th in rushing defense and dead last in passing defense this past season.
So, not surprisingly, the Giants first moves of this young free agency period come on the defensive side of the ball. First they brought back their one-handed pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul on a one year deal, and today they went out and addressed the secondary.
When Giants finalize deal for former Rams CB Janoris Jenkins, it's expected to be for five-years, $62.5 million, per source.

Janoris Jenkins was not pursued by the Rams this off season after they opted to re-sign Trumaine Johnson instead. The decision to keep Johnson over Jenkins becomes a simple one after looking at this stat:
Janoris Jenkins has given up 22 TDs over the past 4 seasons. Richard Sherman has given up 10 over the last five, including playoffs.

However, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and Giants’ defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will now get to coach Jenkins on a 5 year, $62.5 million contract.
The only other solid corners on the Giants roster to play across from Jenkins would be Prince Amukamara – who is also a free agent – and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
It would appear the Giants severely overpaid for Jenkins, who may be the top corner on the marketĀ in what is a weak class of defensive backs. I guess as long as they have somebody to cover Dez Bryant, right?
