Dallas Cowboys Re-Sign Linebacker Kyle Wilber

RJ Ochoa

The Dallas Cowboys are finally starting to get just a wee bit frisky in Free Agency!

Ok well not really, but they are finally giving us stuff to talk about!

Wednesday gave us the news that the Cowboys were bringing back Rolando McClain. On Thursday they locked down their first actual free agent when they signed Defensive Tackle Cedric Thornton. Friday the Cowboys made it a sandwich as far as moves when they re-signed Linebacker Kyle Wilber.

The Cowboys will have a lot of familiarity at the Linebacker position in 2016. Sean Lee, Rolando McClain, Anthony Hitchens, Kyle Wilber, and Damien Wilson will comprise their primary corps. Wilber is a great special teams player as well, and considering Matt Eberflus’s recent promotion you have to imagine these guys will all continue to flourish.

Wilber’s agent reported that it was a 2-year deal so that means that this depth will exist for a little bit beyond 2016. [UPDATE]: Kyle Wilber’s deal is for 2-years with a base salary of $3.25M and a max value of $5.25M.

Hooray for Free Agency moves!

  1. Interesting move. I figured with Lee, McClain, Hitchens, Gachkar, Wilson, and Nzeocha all under contract that would leave just one spot for a fresh face. I figured that would be a free agent who might upgrade the Sam spot or a draft pick to provide immediate depth and perhaps replace McClain next year. That they brought back Wilber tells me that they must view him as the best option to play the Sam next year out of any of the returning options.

  2. I love it. He's a frisky option at LB. More than anything I believe in Eberflus so I'm happy.
