1. If those are our first 2 picks, then I'd say that we screwed the pooch, badly. Jack is okay, but I just don't think we need a top-5 pick going to a LB. I don't know much about Nassib though, so I can't comment there. I do like the pick at #31 – Lynch to the Broncos is a smart choice. I think he'll do better in their system than most.

   • More on this coming tomorrow's article, but Jack at #4 is the Zack Martin pick of this draft. It's not our biggest need right now, like guard wasn't in 2014, but it's a long-term view on a guy who fits our scheme beautifully and can be a key piece for the next decade. As for the 2nd Round pick, who would you want that wasn't already off the board in the mock?

     • i believe the kidd out of Alabama is better than Jack, Ragland if were talking linebackers and he is pro ready…I do not want another yr like last yr…are we putting to much into Tony Romo anyway? Get the QB Geof from California pure passer and can think he will pick up the system, no offense but I give Romo 2-3 yrs at best…..

       • What makes you think Ragland is better than Jack given where both are rated? Seems like everyone disagrees.

2. On paper Nassib seems like a heck of a pick.

   I'm also not high on Myles Jack, but without accounting for trade scenarios it is probably the BPA pick at #4 especially with the knowledge that the Cowboys aren't high on Bosa.

   If those were the first 3 picks, I would take just about any trade to drop back to #7 or #9 and target someone like Hargreaves or even Zeke Elliott. Then of course you all know I'm 100% comfortable with taking Goff, too, so there's that. lol

   • I'm with you on the trade back unless they think Jack is truly elite. If so then grab it while you can because you're not getting elite talent in the #7-#12 range unless you can snag Elliott.

3. I see your point on Jack, but still. And I like Hargreaves III, but not at #4. At #4, without a trade down because it's no certainly that the guy you want will be there, I'd have to go either Elliott or Goff. With Ramsey off the board, there's no one else good for #4 in my mind. So my order is: 1. Ramsey, 2. Elliott, 3. Goff, 4. Jack.

4. Yeah gotta go with the QB before Jack, And I like Jack a lot, and agree with your points in that adding him hopefully helps the defense for the next 10 years, but at the same time he's an injury prone LB that was selected above a potential franchise QB if we pull the trigger on him.

7. That's just a hard comparison to make, Ragland will be a hell of a player, and is ready to be a really solid, hard-hitting linebacker from the start of training camp. Jack is ready to do that along with play some safety and running back. I'll let the pro scouts handle this one haha…

8. That Jack can play RB or LB means squat to me. It does not help his valuation. Every snap he plays taxes him so playing both sides just means he'll do both half assed, instead of playing one really well. Myles Jack as a LB/RB is a non-argument. And the NFL tends to agree with this.

9. Well we know he's not a RB at the NFL level, but it just speaks to his athletic ability that he can do both. They also say that LBs and RBs have to have similar skill sets, as both positions require seeing the holes in the front and attacking them.

Yes, that's all true, but the one key difference between them is the deal breaker for me on considering that ability… Ball carriers just look for the hole and to get through it, but tackles have to be able to take the right angle. We've seen far too much bad tackling these last few years only to bring in a guy because he has all this athleticism only to find out he can't do job #1 – tackle the ball carrier. If he's taken top-5, he shouldn't miss most tackles. It's high expectations for a pick like this, just like people are still down on Mo Claiborne after he had a 2015 season worth keeping him around for; he's still not living up to his draft pick. Just my 2 cents.

11. Makes sense, I honestly haven't watched enough of Jack with my own eyes to tell you one way or another if he is as sound of a tackler as we would like.

12. dear Jessie— Although i can understand your reasoning in selecting Myles Jack…lets just say the knee does not check out…and as you posted…Ramsey is already taken…the cowboys lets say dont want Bosa…and they are not interested in Tunsil..nor do they think either QB is worth a #4 pick..which scenario makes more sense..selecting Elliot or trading back?..and if trading back is the option considering the lack of elite talent in this years draft….what would be the likelihood a partner could be found on draft day?…is #4 still too rich for Elliot?…then would any of us be out of our mind choosing Spence at #4…all things considered from my novice and lowly level of making a good pick…i still would select Elliot…he has the least amount of risk at #4…and lastly..does anyone truly believe that Bosa was holding back this year to protect his draft status?…i sure dont…thank you for your consideration in this matter..sincerely Robert

    • Great stuff, Robert! Thanks for the response. On Elliott… I'm not a fan of spending such a high pick on any RB and paying them $5M/year for the next four seasons. I think we've built and offensive line that can get league-leading production out of solid and bargain-priced rushers. However, if Ramsey's gone and Jack's knee is bad then Elliott may be the only truly elite talent left at #4. I'm not going to freak out if they take him. On Spence… I'm worried about him as a 4-3 end. Think he's too small and is more of a 3-4 OLB. I wouldn't want him so high in the draft. On Bosa… Lots of people believe that he was holding back. However, they said the same about Jadaveon Clowney and it's not like he's set the league on fire since entering. There are lots of reason for concern with Bosa and I'm hoping Dallas has a better option in mind.

Hey Jess how is it going?…..tell me what you think about the possibility of cowboys pulling the trigger and selecting either Wentz or Goff or lynch at 4?…we know we have to begin the journey preparing for Romo's departure…Do you think Wentz or Goff or Lynch…rate in top 5?….it is a lot of money for whoever gets taken at 4….I wish there was a better predictor
    for NFL QB success out of college….i do have a good predictor for selecting a QB….if there is a way to measure how fast a QB can decipher their options from the time the ball is snapped up to 2.5 sec afterward….that is the one main quality that Romo has and he has stated such..anyway thanks for the good read..sincerely Robert

    • The "QB at #4" question is the biggest x-factor in this draft and also the thing we'll have the least certainty of until it does/doesn't happen. Only the Cowboys know how much they believe in one of these rookies as the future of the franchise. Romo is still here and that provides them security to pass on QB this year if they aren't completely in love with one of the prospects. As you said, the ability to predict QB success in the NFL is very slim. I am probably going to do an article before the draft about just how ugly the history of drafted quarterbacks is, especially for those clamoring for us to take one in the middle rounds. The odds are very much against you.
