The outspoken and flashy Michael Irvin that Dallas Cowboys fans came to love throughout his career in the 1990’s could be moving away from his latest public position at NFL Network before the start of the 2016 season.
Sporting News has reported that Irvin’s contract will reportedly expire prior to week 1 of the upcoming regular season. While the National Football League Network certainly wants to keep The Playmaker around, they could see some stiff competition from ESPN in luring the three time Super Bowl champion.
Irvin was with ESPN from 2003 up until 2007 before making the leap to NFLN. There, he gave us unforgetable moments like this one, as the always-animated wide out was given a podium to speak his mind on Tony Romo – following his victory against the Giants to open 2015.
ESPN certainly has a need to bring in an analyst like Irvin, with Monday Night Football set to feature some fresh faces in the near future. Chris Berman, the anchor to MNF on ESPN, will make the 2016 season his last go around on the network.
Joining Berman will already be a cast of unfamiliar analysts, as Mike Ditka, Keyshawn Johnson, and Cris Carter are all already gone. Matt Hasselbeck and Trent Dilfer will still be seen on Monday Night Football coverage, along with now Randy Moss and Charles Woodson.
As it stands, Moss would really be one of the only outspoken and high-energy guys that ESPN could put on Monday Night Countdown and other shows. If it is more of this “watch because anything can happen at any time with these two in the room together” element that they are going for, bringing in Michael Irvin to mix things up with these other former NFL veterans makes a ton of sense.
