Lance Dunbar was a huge part of the Dallas Cowboys offense in 2015 before he tore both his ACL and MCL in his left knee on a kick return in New Orleans on October 4th (322 days ago).
Just how “huge” was Dunbar to America’s Team a year ago? In 4 games Dunbar caught 21 passes for 215 yards, putting him on pace for most receptions in a season ever by a Cowboys running back, not to mention he practically was the entire drive when the Cowboys came back at home against the Giants in Week 1’s epic victory.
Lance’s status on the 2016 Cowboys has been widely speculated all offseason. The Cowboys signed Alfred Morris, drafted both Ezekiel Elliott and Darius Jackson, and feature last year’s 4th Leading Rusher in Darren McFadden. What’s kept Dunbar relevant is how unique his contributions are, and we’re one step closer to seeing those put into action this season.
Dunbar being cleared to return to practice is only going to make the Cowboys offense all the more potent. Celebrate accordingly, Cowboys Nation. It’s a good day to be us!

As likeable as Dunbar is and as good as he looked in those 4 games I can’t help but think it’s just a matter of time before we are talking about his next injury. Don’t want to sound like Negative Ned but for this reason I didn’t think he stays on the 53. If Jackson shows he can do what we get from Dunbar, aside from the fact Zeke never needs to come off the field I don’t see Dunbar staying. And it’s sad because he is likeable.
I agree with you about the fear of injury. However, Dallas could’ve had those same thoughts in the offseason but still chose to re-sign him. Granted, that was before they drafted Zeke and Darius.
It will come down to who WON’T make the team if they try to keep Dunbar. If there’s nobody else they really hate cutting, then Dunbar given them a unique weapon with RB/WR versatility. They will find ways to use him, but only if they can keep him on the 53 without making a painful cut somewhere else.
