Your Dallas Cowboys Team Defense
Expert Consensus Ranking: 19
My Ranking: 18
The Dallas Cowboys are facing a Chicago Bears team that is reeling offensively. They’re likely to be without starting quarterback Jay Cutler, which will leave Brian Hoyer to start.
Brian Hoyer has had decent success at times as a starter for both the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans. He was the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when wide receiver Josh Gordon led the NFL in receiving.
Hoyer does have some ability, and throwing the ball may be the only thing that keeps them in the game. The Dallas Cowboys’ secondary will be tested by Alshon Jeffrey, who is always capable of a big game.
Their running game is pretty bad, but the Dallas run defense has been mediocre. Jeremy Langford, who had some productive moments as a fill-in for Matt Forte in 2015, has typically been inefficient running the football. He’s currently averaging 3 yards per carry. I expect rookie running back Jordan Howard to get more of the rushing load this week as John Fox moves his running back situation into a full-on timeshare.
This is a defense missing Danny Trevathan, Pernell McPhee, Lamar Houston, and Eddie Goldman out of their front seven. This team is racked by injuries.
If there was ever a time the Dallas offense could get a big lead on an opponent, this is the week. Why is getting a big lead important? It let’s the pass rush get after the quarterback.
The Dallas defense has had two sacks and an interception in each of the first two weeks. I think the trend continues here in week three.
If you need a flyer for a team defense, the Dallas Cowboys is my ONE TO START.
Flawless Forecast: 13 points against, four sacks, two interceptions, one fumble recovery.
One to Sit – Kansas City Chiefs vs New York Jets
Expert Consensus Ranking: 10
My Ranking: 15
The Kansas City Chiefs have some defensive play makers on their team. The problem is they’ve been giving up a lot of points to opposing offenses.
In two weeks they’ve allowed 48 points, 502 yards passing, and 201 yards rushing. In week three they face a very dynamic New York Jets team that has picked up right where it left off from 2015.
They scored 37 points in a week two win against the Buffalo Bills. Ryan Fitzpatrick has found a groove with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Quincy Enunwa. Matt Forte is getting fed the ball a ton. The Jets have a really well-balanced offense that can strike for big plays.
Flawless Forecast: 31 points against, two sacks, one interception.
