Cowboys Headlines - The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly From Cowboys Vs. 49ers 1Your Dallas Cowboys Team Defense

The Dallas Cowboys come into week five after another strong defensive effort against the San Francisco 49ers.

For the second week in a row, they held an opponent under 20 points and now rank 10th in the league in scoring defense. The Dallas Cowboys are allowing 19.25 points per game.

The Cincinnati Bengals come in ranking 24th in points scored at 19.5 points per game. They are third in passing yards at 291 yards per game and 28th in rushing yards at 80 yards per game.

While the rushing numbers look pretty average, it’s important to note they have faced some pretty good defensive fronts. The New York Jets rank third in rushing yards allowed and the Pittsburgh Steelers rank 4th. Though the Miami Dolphins rank 30th in rushing yards allowed, they only allow 3.7 yards per attempt. They were able to rush for over 100 yards against the Denver Broncos, but the Broncos rank 23rd in yards allowed and give up 4.2 yards per carry.

This is an important test for the Dallas Cowboys defense. A.J. Green is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and Andy Dalton will look his way often. Brandon LaFell and Tyler Boyd make for solid complimentary options, but Giovanni Bernard is a player to watch.

Bernard is second on the team in targets, receptions, is third in yards, and is the only player other than Green to have a touchdown reception.

Dallas wins this matchup on defense by holding the Bengals to field goals. Cincinnati only scores touchdowns on 31% of their red zone visits. Compare that to Dallas who scores on 67% of their red zone visits, good for ninth in the league.

If Dallas can continue to make the Bengals kick field goals, they will win the game.

Flawless Forecast: 19 points allowed, two sacks, and two interceptions.
