The Dallas Cowboys are on an impressive five-game winning streak and sit atop the NFC East division with a 5-1 record. Let that sink in for just a minute.
The last two games against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers were supposed to be measuring sticks to see what this Cowboys team was made of. If those games were any indication of what this team is capable of, then I think we can all agree that the Cowboys are not only one of the best teams in the entire NFL, but should be well on their way to making a push for the playoffs.
This is definitely encouraging considering the team went 4-12 last season and the future certainly looks bright for the rest of the year for the Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys pretty much dominated the entire game against the Green Bay Packers in the tough environment that Lambeau Field tends to offer. Unfortunately, the BOO birds were out for the Packers at home because of the performance Dallas was able to put together.
Below is this week’s version of The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly that I observed for the Dallas Cowboys against the Green Bay Packers yesterday afternoon.
The Good
There was a lot of good for the Dallas Cowboys yesterday afternoon against the Green Bay Packers. It was a little difficult to narrow down exactly what to put in this category, but I ultimately decided that the rushing attack for the Cowboys offense was just too dominant not to win out.
The storyline heading into this contest was the Cowboys #1 running game going up against the Packers #1 run defense. I think we can all agree now that the Packers stats were more than just a little bit padded due to the competition they faced so far in 2016, but the Cowboys running game is definitely the real deal.
Ezekiel Elliott alone rushed for 157 rushing yards on 28 carries. He also had two receptions for 17 yards, but it was his dominance in the running game that punished the Packers defense.
The Cowboys offensive line and Elliott have really become a dominant force in the running game and the team’s remaining on the Cowboys schedule will definitely be on alert.
The Bad
They say bad things happen in threes, and that is exactly what happened in the Packers game to rookie quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott finally threw his first interception in the NFL, ending his record-setting pass completions without an INT for a rookie QB. He also had two fumbles against the Packers yesterday afternoon, but fortunately the Aaron Rodgers led offense was unable to really capitalize on those turnovers.
Prescott has been outstanding protecting the football thus far in his NFL career and it’s one of the reasons why the Dallas Cowboys have been on a five-game winning streak.
I don’t expect Prescott to continue turning the ball over. I think it was just a fluke occurrence on his part and I’m positive he will focus on doing a better job protecting the ball from here on out.
The Ugly
I really wanted to go with how ugly Cole Beasley made the Green Bay Packers secondary look yesterday, but ultimately decided to go with Brice Butler.
Butler’s stat sheet against the Green Bay Packers yesterday afternoon will read one catch for 20 yards and one touchdown, but it’s what the stat sheet doesn’t show that lands him in the ugly category.
He had another boneheaded penalty by blocking a player the back that cost the Cowboys a first down on a Beasley reception. It was a block that really had no impact on the play whatsoever and kind of stalled the drive for the Cowboys offense.
Butler also failed to bring in a deep pass that bounced off his hands. It was definitely a catchable ball, but it looked as if his concentration lapsed, thus resulting in an incompletion. It’s a play he has to make if he wants receive more playing time.
