Dez Bryant’s Return Makes Cowboys Offense Even More Dangerous

After missing the last three games, plus the bye week, Dez Bryant is set to make his return to the field, which makes the Dallas Cowboys offense even more dangerous then they already are.

Bryant injured his knee early in the Week 3 matchup with the Chicago Bears, but still continued to play through the pain. He was even on the receiving end of Dak Prescott’s first passing touchdown in the NFL. Unfortunately, that’s the last we saw Bryant, except on the sideline cheering on his teammates.

Bryant could have possibly played on the road against the Green Bay Packers, but the Cowboys coaching/training staff decided it would be better to keep him out until after their bye week. This would give him an extra week of recovery time and allow him to get closer to 100% for the meeting with the Cowboys division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, I’ve heard the argument that the Cowboys offense hasn’t necessarily missed Bryant’s absence on the field, and that they should trade their All-Pro receiver. Upon hearing this all I could do was laugh and roll my eyes.

These people really don’t understand just how much of an impact Dez Bryant has on what the Dallas Cowboys can do offensively, or how opposing defenses have to change their game plan with him in the lineup. All they really see is the offense playing at a high level, but things will be even better with his return to the field.

Dez Bryant WILL make the Cowboys offense better!

Terrance Williams, Brice Butler, and most importantly Cole Beasley have done a really good job of holding things down during Bryant’s absence. But, with #88’s return to the field, Prescott and Company could possibly become the best offensive unit in the entire league.

The Dallas Cowboys have played a total of six games so far in 2016 and are currently ranked #3 overall on offense. They are averaging 401.5 yards per game and are scoring an average of 26.5 points per contest.

Now, that’s pretty impressive, but it’s in large part due to the fact the Cowboys are #1 in rushing averaging 161.2 yards per game and have scored 11 rushing touchdowns. That really shouldn’t be too big of a surprise considering what they invested in Ezekiel Elliott and the offensive line.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys are the best team in the NFL running the ball, it doesn’t mean things can’t still improve.

Elliott has been running against eight and even nine man boxes more than any other running back in the league, but with Dez Bryant back in the lineup that will change.

Opposing defenses will have to account for where Bryant is lined up on any given play and  they typically like to bracket him in coverage with two defenders. That means teams won’t be able to stack the box against the Cowboys potent rushing attack any longer.

Can you imagine how much better Ezekiel Elliott will be running the ball?

Bryant’s return will certainly help improve the rushing attack, but it will be in the passing game where he makes his biggest impact.

The Dallas Cowboys are a middle-of-the-road team passing the ball in the NFL. They are currently ranked #19 overall averaging just 240.3 yards per game and have only scored 7 receiving touchdowns. But, expect that to improve with Dez Bryant back on the field at 100%.

With Bryant back in the lineup things should open up even more for all of the Cowboys wide receivers, especially Cole Beasley.

Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan can really start getting creative now that he has all of his weapons healthy, and you can bet Dak Prescott is licking his chops ahead of the meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The fact the matter is, with Dez Bryant back on the field this offense will finally be firing on all cylinders for the first time all season.
