Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett is doing a mighty fine job in 2016, his squad is 5-1 after all. Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli has gotten a ton of well-deserving praise, but what about Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan?

The Cowboys Offense boasts the NFL’s leading rusher through seven weeks, despite already having had their bye, for the second time in three seasons… and it’s a different running back doing the rushing! That’s remarkable!

Someone who has shown belief in Linehan before will be coaching against him this Sunday when the Eagles come to town – Philadelphia Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz. Scott Linehan served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2009-2013 when Jim Schwartz was their Head Coach.

Detroit Lions Offensive Ranks (2009-2013) Points Yards
2009 27th 26th
2010 15th 17th
2011 4th 5th
2012 17th 3rd
2013 13th 6th

It’s obvious that things really clicked for Linehan’s Lions beginning in 2011, and that coincides with Matthew Stafford starting every game since then. When Scott Linehan has a competent quarterback under center, he consistently puts together elite offenses.

It should be noted that in 2014 (Scott Linehan’s first year in Dallas… serving as the Passing Game Coordinator) the Cowboys were 5th and 7th respectively in these categories. This guy knows how to run an offense.

Jim Schwartz’s Eagles Defense is ferocious, and they boast what might be the best front seven currently in the NFL. He undoubtedly knows Scott Linehan very well having worked very closely with him for five seasons, Sunday is going to show the world who knows more than the other.

Considering that Scott Linehan has the 7th best offense in the NFL in terms of points and 3rd in terms of yards and that he’s doing this with rookies at quarterback and running back… the smart bet is that it’s him. Bring it on, Sunday.
