Steelers Plan To “Accumulate” Hits On Ezekiel Elliott

Kevin Brady

As usual, the Cowboys offensive gameplan will center around their star rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott.

As the league’s leading rusher, Elliott has enjoyed success just about every week, going for 90 or more yards in all but 2 games. Zeke is averaging 111 yards per game, nearly unheard of for any running back, forget about a rookie.

This week, he goes against a Pittsburgh Steelers rushing defense which has been gashed so far this season. The 4-4 Steelers are 13th in the NFL in opponent rushing yards per game, their biggest failure coming when Jay Ajayi of the Miami Dolphins went for over 200 yards.

Pittsburgh’s defense is displaying confidence in their own gameplan to stop Elliott and the Cowboys, however. Linebacker Arthur Moats told ESPN that the Steelers must have “multiple guys hitting him.” Once those hits accumulate, Zeke will slow down.

Well, that’s what they believe at least. Cowboys Headlines - #FantasyFootball Week 10 #Sauce and Waiver Wire Adds 6

As Cowboys fans well know, Elliott thrives on contact, he even seeks it out at times. Then after delivering the blow to a defender, he gets up like nothing happened and smiles wide with a 5 yard gain.

For the first time in weeks, linebacker Ryan Shazier and defensive end Cam Heyward are both healthy, leaving the Steelers feeling confident in their ability to end Dallas’ seven game winning streak.

But considering how poorly this defense played against both the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins, it is the Cowboys who should the most confident heading into Sunday’s game.

  1. That is mighty tough talk for a defense that is not playing well. I don’t know if they think they are going to stack the box or if they are just simply saying they are going to fly to Zeke on every play but this strategy will only allow Dak to Bert them with his legs or his arm which opens it back up for Zeke. As far as I’m concerned this is just idle chatter.

    • Good points, Randy. The Steelers run defense has been nowhere near where they usually are, and I think the Cowboys should be in good shape for Sunday. Thanks for reading!
