DeMarcus Lawrence missed the first month of the season while he served his four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse program, but has rejoined Dallas Cowboys on defense the last four games. He hasn’t really made the kind of impact we were all hoping yet, and only has four total tackles to his credit so far in 2016.
One area that we thought he would be a difference maker this year was as a pass rusher, and although he has been close, he has failed to sack any of the opposing quarterbacks this season.
Fortunately, history indicates that DeMarcus Lawrence is about to go on a quarterback sacking spree the second half of the 2016 season.
In 2014, Lawrence’s rookie season, he didn’t record a quarterback sack during the regular season, but finally came through when it mattered most against the Detroit Lions in the playoffs. He pretty much sealed the game when he brought down Matthew Stafford and allowed the Cowboys offense to get the ball back to run out the clock.
In 2015, Lawrence finished the season with eight QB sacks, but only one of those were in the first half of the season.

Based on this information, it would appear as if DeMarcus Lawrence is a player that excels in the second half of the season for some reason.
Lawrence’s slow start in 2016 can probably be attributed to getting readjusted to the speed of the NFL after missing the first month of the season. He has been really close several times getting to the quarterback for his first QB sack this season, but has failed to finish.
I can think of four maybe five times he has had the QB in his grasp in the four games he has been back with the Cowboys. He is applying consistent pressure, which is good, but QB sacks are better because they put opposing offenses in a bind.
DeMarcus Lawrence might not get his first sack this week since Ben Roethlisberger is one of the more difficult QB’s to bring down in the entire NFL, but you can bet he will do everything in his power to get him to the ground.
I personally think once he notches his first QB sack, they will start coming in droves. Sometimes all it takes is getting over that hump, and I think there’s a good chance of that happening Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If the Dallas Cowboys defense can get more from their pass rush, they will be even more productive than what we have seen so far this season.
