The once off season distraction that was Randy Gregory has taught Cowboys fans over his troubled career in Dallas never to get their hopes too high. Winners of eleven straight, the services of the 2014 second-round pick have not necessarily been missed.
Update: According to new reports, Gregory will not be allowed to return to practice tomorrow. Instead, he is ineligible until after Week 15.
The NFL says Randy Gregory can't practice until after the Tampa Bay game, no early return, despite initial reports

Preparing for an even longer suspension to come down with another missed or failed test, Cowboys Nation unexpectedly received some good news cautiously optimistic news on Gregory earlier today.
All of this certainly could (UPDATE: has) come crashing down once again, but a Dallas defense that is looking for all the reinforcements they can get come playoff time could benefit greatly from a presence like Randy Gregory off the edge.
The Cowboys currently rank 22nd in the league with 23 sacks on the season.
If he doesn’t get suspended, he could actually help. My worry is that he will tease us once again and the NFL will hand down another suspension before the playoffs, making his presence useless for when it really counts.
Looks like you just got part of this worry correct, Kevin. I agree too that he could have REALLY helped. Alas, we’re 11-1 without him.
We are, but we also are going to face more teams like Baltimore and Minnesota that have really good defenses but with better offenses. I’m not saying we can’t beat them, but why not stack the deck. Treat it like having an injured player finally returning off IR. While I don’t like why he was suspended, if he can help the team, all the better.
There’s no doubt his talent can help this team on the field this season, but he’s ruined virtually all of his chances to display that talent.
That remains to be seen, but you might be right. Kinda odd that the NFL office hasn’t announced anything though. I wonder what they are waiting on.
