The Dallas Cowboys will have more important things to play for in the month of January (and February), but the best players on America’s Team certainly appreciate the invite to the fun and games in Orlando, Florida known as the 2017 Pro Bowl.
Returning to its original NFC vs AFC format, this year’s Pro Bowl will be played on January 29th from the Citrus Bowl on ESPN.
Five Cowboys players have been named to the NFC roster.
QB Dak Prescott
The most improbable quarterback story in the history of the Cowboys’ franchise has a new wrinkle to it, as rookie Dak Prescott has been named to his first Pro Bowl. Prescott certainly looked the part against the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, leading the Cowboys to their 12th win of the season – and the verge of a NFC East title, the top seed in the NFC playoffs, plus a first-round bye – with 279 passing yards and a rushing touchdown.
RB Ezekiel Elliott
You can’t mention Dak Prescott in the Cowboys backfield without his fellow-rookie Ezekiel Elliott, who has lived up to every expectation placed on him when he was drafted fourth overall.
Elliott has been able to showcase his skills behind the best offensive line in the league, and the result is the league-leading rusher going to the Pro Bowl in his rookie season with 1,551 yards to date.
C Travis Frederick
Frederick was named to his third straight Pro Bowl, the center-man for Dallas’ star-studded offensive line. Having not allowed a sack all season, Frederick is on a long-term deal that was signed this preseason, and yet another Pro Bowl roster spot proves why he is worth every cent.
RG Zack Martin
Martin will also be appearing in his third straight Pro Bowl, and it would be tough to make a case for him not being the best guard in the game. A force in the running game for Ezekiel Elliott, Martin simply excels at everything the Cowboys ask him to do from the right guard position.
LT Tyron Smith
Tyron Smith is going to make the Pro Bowl until the end of time. This will be the cornerstone left tackle’s fourth consecutive trip to the game, where he can show off his knack for tossing around the league’s best pass rushers like paper weights.
Smith is truly a guy that front offices dream about building their franchise around, and it is no surprise that the Pro Bowl honors have come his way consistently.
✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭
With the exception of Dak Prescott, all five of these Cowboys’ players are listed as starters for the Pro Bowl. Most impressively, this means that Ezekiel Elliott ranks ahead of David Johnson and Devonta Freeman.
Johnson and Freeman should see plenty of carries in this game though, because Zeke is going to be running the Cowboys to Houston for Super Bowl LI. He’ll of course be taking the Space Cowboys with him, and his quarterback Dak Prescott, so this roster could look drastically different.
Congrats to #DallasCowboys Pro Bowlers! @dak @EzekielElliott @tfrederick72 @thegob70
