In a sports calendar year which the Chicago Cubs won the World Series after 108 years of waiting, and the Cavaliers gave the city of Cleveland its first title in 52 years, it’s acceptable to feel a bit cheated if you’re a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Without rubbing salt in the wound, it’s been 21 years since our beloved NFL team last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. Once again, we watched a playoff run in which the Cowboys exited before reaching the conference championship.
Throughout the regular season, we had high hopes for coach Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys. A pair of talented super rookies, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, of course, underlined this remarkable resurgence from the 4-12 2015 campaign. However, it seems disappointment was still in the cards for us. So now we have to wait until another season to hope, watch, and cheer our hearts out for the Cowboys.
It’s officially draft season. It’s a time for watching Senior Bowl prospects and, sometimes, exploring our deepest imaginations about our team.
As many of us know, the Dallas Cowboys are dubbed “America’s team.” We’re colorful, over-the-top to a certain extent, and our pride in our team often draws ire from non-fans. That said, we can’t help but compare our Cowboys to the legendary rock group Kiss.
Kiss, very much like the Dallas Cowboys, is a rather polarizing group of individuals. You either love them or hate them. Both know how to put on a show for their fans, which doesn’t necessarily translate to success. But in essence, they’re as much about entertainment as they are about the game they play.
The Cowboys are amongst the most played teams on Madden, while Kiss, for their part, have also invaded gaming realms like the Rock Band series and 2000’s Psycho Circus on Dreamcast. There’s even a digital slot machine game called KISS featured on the online gaming platform Slingo that goes on to cement just how popular the band is across the globe, regardless of their age.
It’s funny just how similar the two really are when you dig down into how both are perceived by non-fans across the States and beyond.
For now, love them or hate them, we as fans have no choice but to continue to dream about the Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl destiny. Yes, we can distract ourselves and manage our frustrations by focusing on other things, like the upcoming rookie draft, the NFL Pro Bowl, and even video games.
We’re so used to the hate and the criticism that almost everything about football becomes elementary. We have no other recourse but to continue clinging on to the hope that one day – and with a bit of luck, one day soon – the Dallas Cowboys will go to that big dance, the promise land, and win another Super Bowl.
