This week is set to be a busy one in the NFL with Free Agency officially begining on Thursday, March 9th at 4pm ET, but the Dallas Cowboys have already procured the rights to one of their more important players – David Irving. The Cowboys have officially tendered an offer to Irving, ensuring that he will be back with the team in 2017.
David Irving has been a favorite of Cowboys Nation faithful since joining the team in 2015. That season we saw flashes of a great player, but it was across the success that was 2016 where we really saw Irving come into his own as a pass rusher.
David Irving Is Back, Let’s Get Some More Help
Irving took over games, most notably the Bays (Green and Tampa), giving the Cowboys a force along the defensive line… something we’ve felt was absent for far too long. Considering that David Irving was an Exclusive Rights Free Agent, it was almost impossible for him to end up with another team as all that was necessary was a tendered offer from the Cowboys before Free Agency officially begins. For those that have been sweating this move since the season ended, breathe easy my friends.
Just because David Irving will be back in the blue and silver doesn’t at all mean that the state of the pass rush is anywhere near safe. The Cowboys won’t likely be too active in Free Agency, at least to the degree Madden fans would like, but they’ll still likely bring in a largely unrecognizable name or two. The Benson Mayowas of the world are who we’re looking for, folks.
The state of this part of the team will likely be the focus come the 2017 NFL Draft when the Cowboys will look to bolster a group that has plagued them in their last two playoff appearances. The likely new additions, along with the newly tendered David Irving, will hopefully be enough to put Dallas where we want them to be – Minnesota in February of 2018.
David Irving is a no brainer, should have given him a 3 year contract and locked him up, he is only getting better and will cost more after next season. You can’t teach height and he has power, he proved that by playing DT as well, If he keeps improving he will be a Very Good DE for us…COWBOYS4LIFE !!!
