The new NFL league year is upon us, and free agency is going about as expected for the Dallas Cowboys. Terrell McClain, Barry Church, and Ronald Leary have all departed with the Cowboys right up against the salary cap once again. Now, another defensive lineman in Jack Crawford is taking his talents to the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons.

Crawford has been with the Cowboys since 2014, regarded as a perfect Rod Marinelli guy for his motor and versatility to rush as both a defensive end and tackle.
Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn will now value Jack Crawford’s versatility as they look to remain a power in the NFC, while the Cowboys depth along the defensive line draws thinner.
Crawford’s 3.5 sacks from 2016 will have to be replaced through the rest of free agency, the upcoming NFL Draft, and perhaps even with a 2016 rookie like Charles Tapper who missed the season due to injury.
ANOTHER ONE ( DJ KHALED VOICE)!!! Free agency has been depressing so far for Cowboy Nation
We tried to warn you that it would look like this haha. They’ll potentially be active on some second-tier signings, but the focus is the draft.
“The #Falcons gave DL Jack Crawford a 3-year deal worth $10.3M, with $3.75M in year 1”
$1 million per sack… ;^)
I realize he & McClain are decent cog players, but with tight $ I’d much rather lock in Butler and Irving – which they did.
Wilcox – different story. The link below says Dallas will let him walk and 3 teams are looking at him.
He remains a project after an improved 2016, and I can’t imagine he’ll command gigantic FA money.
Dallas lost Church and should invest in Wilcox. At SS he’s not as exposed in coverage and his hitting makes up for it. I try to get 10-15 lbs on him & tell him it’s his job if he earns it in camp. Heath is not good enough to start, unless he’s a different guy next camp. Very skeptical there.

Russ, thanks for reading and replying. I agree completely on Wilcox and have since the start, when Church and McClain left I felt like it was time for the Cowboys to make their best effort in retaining him. Not looking likely now, but we do need to see what the market actually commands for him. Depends on if other teams see the development that he showed through 2016 to finally be valuable.
