The Tony Romo Saga has been one of the more interesting, complex, and to be honest boring (at least through the offseason) situations that NFL and Dallas Cowboys fans have monitored in recent history. It seems as if things are finally starting to heat up a little, to the point that Tony Romo could be on the move in the near future finally.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on Monday that Jerry Jones let NFL General Managers and their franchises know that they can have conversations with Tony Romo, specifically about the remainder of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Why is Jerry Jones’ seal of approval necessary to facilitate all of this, you ask?
Tony Romo is currently under contract with the Dallas Cowboys. This means that he cannot discuss football matters with any other NFL team, as that would be considered tampering. Jerry Jones allowing teams to discuss this matter with Romo is by definition still tampering, Jerry is simply letting other teams know that he will not be filing a grievance on behalf of it.
It’s been almost a month since Tony Romo was reportedly told that he was going to be released by the Cowboys at the beginning of Free Agency, and here we are today with no movement on the matter. Since then we’ve been on quite a ride with Romo, to the point that even his Instagram posts were dissected to the point of possible shade being thrown at the Dallas braintrust.
The new date that has been swirling around NFL circles as one to possibly circle on your calendars regarding Romo is April 17th, when the offseason programs begin for the Cowboys. If Romo were indeed gone, by whatever method, by then it would ensure that he would not be around as Dallas attempts to build their 2017 squad and goals.
Tony Romo is a $19.6M cap hit for the Cowboys whether released (a June 1st designation could devote half of this to 2018), traded, or retired. It is worth noting that CBS has expressed a great deal of interest in Tony Romo potentially joining their broadcast team, and that it is the week of The Masters. Maybe Romo will make an appearance? An announcement? Either way he’ll have to potentially put down the phone with another NFL team on the line discussing the matters Jerry Jones gave them permission to.
