Longtime Franchise QB Tony Romo To Retire, Pursue Broadcasting Career

Kevin Brady

Shortly after learning the Dallas Cowboys planned to release former franchise quarterback Tony Romo today, it was announced that the Cowboys legend will be retiring from football altogether to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Romo already has suitors from CBS and FOXSports, and both ESPN and NBC will most likely follow suit after learning of his recent retirement.

Tony Romo finishes his career as the Cowboys all-time passing leader with 34,183 yards. He is also the franchise leader in touchdowns (248) and quarterback rating (97.1).

A lot will be said/written about Romo in the coming days, some negative and some positive. But Tony Romo meant so very much to the Dallas Cowboys and their fan base.

Quarterbacking the Cowboys through the re-building abyss of the mid-2000’s, Romo seemed to pull off a magical play every single week. While it was thought that Romo could join the Houston Texans or Denver Broncos to chase his first Super Bowl, it now appears that the Dez Bryant catch-that-wasn’t ultimately sealed his championship fate.

But while he may not finish with a ring, I believe Tony Romo is undoubtedly deserving of a place in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor as soon as possible.

No matter what anyone says about Romo, he is a franchise legend, and will be dearly missed by the team and fan base. Hopefully, he will enjoy his new gig as a broadcaster, but with his knowledge and passion for the game, I have no doubts he will excel in whatever football-field he chooses to pursue.
