Cowboys RB Alfred Morris Drops Agent, Joins CSE Talent; What’s Next?

Jess Haynie

Dallas Cowboys running back Alfred Morris has just changed agents. Could this be the beginning of other changes for Morris, who has been involved in trade rumors over the last few months?

As shared to me by a representative from CSE Talent, Alfred Morris has signed with Michael and Jason Katz to take over his representation and marketing.  Here is a photograph of Morris and his new agent with the freshly signed contract.

Often, athletes changing agents comes with wanting to make an important move in their careers. Sometimes it’s about negotiating a new contract with their current team, but it could also be trying to facilitate a trade.

CSE Talent also represents Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton and Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones. Their client list extends beyond the NFL and includes NBA coaches Tyronn Lue and Doc Rivers, “Inside the NBA” studio host Ernie Johnson, and lead baseball commentator John Smoltz, among others.

Could this representation change help Alfred Morris find a better role with either the Cowboys or a new team?

It’s been two months since the rumor started that Dallas was trying to trade Alfred Morris. This past weekend I considered what Morris’ prospects are for remaining a Cowboy; where he could fit into the team’s plans for 2017 with Ezekiel Elliott and Darren McFadden ahead of him on the depth chart.

As I said two months ago, the announcement that Morris was on the trade block was almost self-defeating. Much like we experienced recently with Tony Romo, teams aren’t going to throw you trade compensation if they think they can sign a player in free agency after you’ve released him.

It was just a few years ago that Alfred Morris had three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for Washington. He’s 28-years-old and has been remarkably durable.  Morris started every game during his four years in Washington and was healthy all of last year for Dallas. Even if his value for the Cowboys has diminished, Alfred may still be useful to a team with a hole at running back.

There is plenty of offseason left. Rookie camps are underway and mini-camps and OTAs are still to come. We still have the June 1st date to look forward to. Even if nothing changes in these upcoming weeks, plenty of things can happen during training camps and preseason that might change things for Alfred Morris, be it in Dallas or elsewhere.

  1. Given what Morris did last year I don’t see any way he makes this roster. McFadden is better than him at this point and they need the quick and shifty Dunbar type and try are not him. And for that matter neither is Jahad Thomas. He can catch the ball but he doesn’t have those moves.

  2. When you are a proven 1,000 yard rusher and stay healthy you should be given every chance to play. He should be the backup for the tough pounding yardage to wear down the defense because McFadden has 1 1,000 yard season and then hurt last year. Jerry is just loyal to his Arkansas players and never really gave Morris a chance so I hope he is released or traded so he gets a chance if we are not going to give him one.
