Soaking It Up: LB Jaylon Smith Finds A Mentor In Sean Lee

Kevin Brady

Despite missing the entirety of his rookie season, second year linebacker Jaylon Smith enters 2017 with an incredible amount of hype surrounding him.

Due to his severe knee injury which resulted in “drop foot” nerve damage, it would be totally reasonable to expect Smith to be behind the rest of the linebacker crew. Still, given his immense talent, he is the favorite to start at MIKE linebacker this season.

Luckily for Jaylon Smith, he will be playing right next to an All-Pro caliber veteran in Sean Lee who can help him along. And, it appears Smith is more than willing to accept Lee as his mentor.

On Thursday night, Jaylon Smith tweeted out this image of him and Sean Lee speaking during their latest practice at OTAs. Captioning the photo “Be a sponge!” Smith acknowledged that in order to be his best football playing self, he must seek out leadership from Lee.

For us Cowboys fans, we have to happy to see Jaylon Smith not only on the field actually playing, but also following the lead of one this league’s great linebackers.

Images like these only make me more excited to see what this new-looked defense in Dallas will look like come September 10th and beyond.

  1. Well if Sean ‘The Bust’ Lee is his mentor he’ll be good for 2 games a season…..

    • Wtf are u talking about?? Sean is one of the best lb’s in the league. Did u see what he did to demarco when he left to the eagles, he had something like 12 yards for the game n was negative there for awhile while Sean was tackling him behind the scrimmage line.
