One of the most surprising moves this weekend by the Dallas Cowboys, was the release of backup QB Kellen Moore. After a surprising preseason by the undrafted rookie Cooper Rush, QB2 controversy was at full speed in Dallas. Cooper clearly became a priority over Moore, and that was a good sign for all of Cowboys Nation.
Even still, Kellen Moore’s time in Dallas isn’t over yet.
Just a few days later after his release, all eyes are on Moore to make his way back into the Cowboys organization. Since the veteran QB was released, that has been the talk. In order to be placed on IR, Rico Gathers had to make the original roster and that’s why the Cowboys took a risk by releasing Moore.
Jerry Jones on @1053thefan says Kellen Moore is coming back, but wouldn't say if he's going to be the backup Sunday vs. Giants

On Tuesday morning, the Dallas Cowboys confirmed that Kellen Moore was coming back to the Cowboys. It’s just a matter of time now.
For now, let’s discuss some possibilities.
Carrying three quarterbacks on the roster doesn’t mean they will all suit up on Sundays. One of them won’t. Every week there will be one quarterback who is listed as inactive. You don’t need three QBs ready to play every game.
With Dak Prescott as the starter, Garrett will have to decide who would he want in a game if Dak goes down. Between Rush and Moore, the decision is not as easy as it may seem.
Yes, Cooper Rush is the better passer. But he is an inexperienced rookie who hasn’t seen much in his NFL career.
On the other hand, Kellen Moore is a great student of the game. He will know what he is facing. He may not be a good passer on the field, but one thing we can’t deny is he has the ability to prepare himself and the starting QB to face opposing defenses. That’s the reason he has hung around in the league for so much now. Not because he is a good pocket passer, we know he isn’t.
If Dak goes down for more than a game though, things can be changed up a bit.
Let Kellen play the rest of the game in which #4 is injured and after that, prepare Cooper Rush to be your starting QB. With a good supporting cast, at least you can expect the Cowboys to put up a fight.
Undrafted rookie QBs may not be ideal, but neither is Kellen Moore. And the truth is, if Dak Prescott goes down for multiple weeks, we are in trouble. It doesn’t matter who comes in as QB2.
Rush certainly would make it interesting at the very least, and that is who the Cowboys should go to in case Dak suffers a serious injury.
The backup quarterback position was one of the most debated among the passionate fan base that is Cowboys Nation. And I can’t help but wonder… why are we so concerned about a player who shouldn’t be on the field?
My guess? Tony Romo made us scared. Please don’t get me wrong, Tony was the first QB I ever saw playing for this franchise and I will always be a huge fan of number 9… but to deny he was injury prone would be wrong. Because he was.
But right now, the Dallas Cowboys have a healthy, 24 year old quarterback who is ready to lead this team to victory. There is no reason to be scared. Dak Prescott is our quarterback. He is our guy. Let’s enjoy that. And let’s get ready for this season.
They should dump the dead weight (Moore).. Dak proved that you can win with a rookie and Rush has the talent and composure to do just that. I do not care that Moore is a student of the game. He has proven he is average if lucky and mostly not good. We know what we have in Moore and it is not worth the roster spot to continue with what we already know.
Mauricio im disappointed in this article, Have you watched any preseason this year?? Im a life long cowboys fan, and it kills me sometimes how we as fans accept mediocrity. We made every excuse in the world for Romo, We make excuses for the defense, when will we start getting out of our emotions as fans and accept the real. Kellen Moore is a student of the game but he sucks on the field, why is that acceptable?? Cooper rush comes in and outplays him and people are making excuses for why he’s outplayed Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore is the only player that i know that gets rewarded for poor play in the NFL and its a complete joke. All the good players we released this weekend and we bring back the one who played the worst out of all of them this preseason Jerry never lets me done SMFH!!!
Tony Romo has never officially retired from the NFL. If Dak goes down for multiple games Romo will be your starting QB.
