Report: Cowboys DT Stephen Paea to Retire

Mauricio Rodriguez

It’s been a weird, busy day around the NFL, and especially for the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier today, CB Nolan Carroll was released by the team. And now, more roster movements could be coming for this defense.

On the same day, some surprising news regarding defensive tackle Stephen Paea were reported by Adam Schefter.

This comes as a surprise to Cowboys Nation, but it makes sense. Stephen Paea has been dealing with a knee injury lately and has missed a lot of workouts with the team.

The entire Cowboys defense has been struggling all year and one of the main reasons has been interior defensive line play. When Paea was signed this offseason, the DT position looked very promising.

Maliek Collins, David Irving, and Stephen Paea were names that made the unit look intriguing. Personally, I liked the idea of having Paea next to Collins a lot.

The Cowboys have plenty of options to turn towards to now. David Irving is back and he played exclusively at DT versus the Packers. Lewis Neal, Richard Ash are still part of the Cowboys practice squad. Brian Price has shown up in some plays, too. Even Taco Charlton could compete for some snaps… he could have more impact there than what he will ever have at DE.
