Should Cowboys Trade For WR Martavis Bryant?

Kevin Brady

Despite scoring 30-plus points back to back weeks, something has felt off about the Dallas Cowboys offense all season.

Against the Green Bay Packers things finally started to feel right again, but still, the Cowboys’ lack of a receiving threat opposite Dez Bryant reared its ugly head. In a critical moment, Terrance Williams had a key drop which arguably cost Dallas the game.

While I still believe Brice Butler should be given a fair shot to play more snaps, an option which could take the Cowboys offense to the next level became clear as day yesterday.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Bryant has requested a trade from the Steelers, and the request was reportedly made weeks ago. Bryant spoke to the Steelers’ coaches before their week five game with the Jaguars, asking to be more involved with the offense.

The Steelers have still not been able to involve Martavis Bryant enough, however.

Before missing all of 2016 due to a suspension, Bryant was arguably the best WR2 in football, catching 50 balls for over 700 yards in 2015. Bryant took to Twitter to deny the trade request rumor, but there is certainly reason to believe this was just a PR move to save-face with the Pittsburgh fans.

Martavis Bryant would fit exactly what the Dallas Cowboys need on offense, a dynamic and efficient receiving threat. Lining him up opposite Dez Bryant the Cowboys could give opposing defenses fits, as both have the ability to score at any moment.

Plus, Bryant is just 26 years old and in a contract year. If he enjoys his season in Dallas, the Cowboys could be able to keep him around long term. Dallas will have a lot of draft picks this year due to losses in free agency, so it’s possible they could swing a couple for Bryant.

Martavis Bryant could be just the remedy this offense needs, especially as running back Ezekiel Elliott gets set to serve a six game suspension right in the middle of the season.

I have my doubts that the Cowboys would trade for a wide-out at all, however, especially one with a “troubled” past like Bryant. Then again, Jerry Jones has taken chances on players with previous suspension histories before.

  1. I’d trade for Martvais, Dez has fallen off greatly either that or Dak and Dez just won’t get on the same page

  2. Plllllllllease! Trade a draft pick and Terrance Williams for him. He is a beast and can take the torch from Dez when it’s all said and done.

Dez, Bryant, Butler, with cole and Switzer (eventually has to be given a chance to shine as a pass catcher) would immediately be one of the deadliest receiving cores in the league. They would be silly not to explore this considering it would a very high reward.

Fills a need, and you can focus solely on the defense in the draft/FA again. Move Collins back to LG and get a RT and the online goes back to be dominate.
