While the world of Cowboys Nation spent yesterday frantically refreshing Twitter for the latest Ezekiel Elliott news, some new information came out pertaining to the Cowboys’ current task at hand – the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, a road game they will indeed play with Elliott toting the rock.
An updated Cowboys depth chart was released here by Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota, and the biggest thing that stands out is Chaz Green being slotted ahead of Jonathan Cooper at left guard.

Chaz Green had remained healthy and in the starting lineup for the Cowboys’ first three games of the season, as Elliott averaged 2.9 yards per carry in his starts. Moving on from a forgettable eight yard performance in Denver, the Cowboys’ offensive line picked up where they left off without Ron Leary (now with the Broncos) at LG – as Green filled in admirably to fit well between Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick.
Perhaps it was Smith’s back issues resurfacing in practice that led to the Cowboys pulling Green out of the starting lineup to be ready if needed at left tackle (a position he’s performed at in place of Tyron before), but Jonathan Cooper got the starts against the Rams and Packers.
In both games, Zeke Elliott averaged four yards per carry and the Cowboys scored at least 30 points for the first times in 2017.
Still, a closer look at Cooper’s performance on tape showed a player that – as has been the case throughout his difficult career – struggled in space and played with poor balance.
As long as Chaz Green is able to play, he is the Cowboys best, most consistent, and reliable option at LG. The Dallas Cowboys are back in San Francisco for week seven, where they ran for 194 yards in a win last season with Green starting at left tackle.
It appears that we could again see Chaz in the starting lineup off of the bye week. Dallas’ revolving door at LG continues to give those that prefer Green or Cooper equal hope that this team’s front five will start “the best five”.
With the best tackle in the game anchoring the left side, the spot next to a healthy and prepared Tyron Smith belongs to a healthy Chaz Green.
Is Tyron healthy tho?
No setbacks right now, he is healthy and playing.
and zeke will not play?
Elliott was granted another TRO by the SDNY, which keeps this case ongoing there as he’ll try for the PI. The TRO keeps him on the field for at least this week though, potentially for week eight as well before we know more. We had more of the details here at ITS: https://insidethestar.com/elliott-granted-new-tro-ny-will-play/
What I mean is that he is not listed on the depth chart, how can it be updated? He was granted the TRO yesterday.
