DAL 30, NYG 10: Cowboys Survive Trap Game vs Giants

Mauricio Rodriguez

It was a low-scoring game at MetLife Stadium today, and frankly a disappointing one from our Dallas Cowboys. Despite walking away with the win, the Cowboys struggled way more than they should have against a 2-11 football team. But even still, they managed to get their seventh win of the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

After being tied at ten for three quarters, the Cowboys decided to end things on a good note during the fourth quarter. Three big plays defined the final 15 minutes of the game. A 54-yard pass to Cole Beasley followed by a TD catch by Gold Jacket Witten for the lead, followed by a short pass to Rod Smith who took it to the house for an 81-yard TD.

Dak Prescott finished the day 20/30 and had his first 300+ yards game in a long time. Definitely a good sign for a football team that needs its QB to step up and help his team win out the last three weeks of the season.

Eli Manning did his best to try to upset the Cowboys in his return to the starting lineup, throwing for more than 40 passes. However, he barely crossed the 200 passing yards and his offense just managed to put 10 points in the board.

This was a football game in which the Cowboys decided to make their fans suffer with a 10-10 scoreboard until they decided to start playing football in the fourth quarter, in which they outscored the Giants 20-0.

Other Notes

  • Dez Bryant had an amazing 50-yard touchdown late in the first half, but concerns have to show up after seeing him drop a couple of easy passes.
  • Dak Prescott’s 81-yard pass to Rod Smith will make for his second longest of his career. Personally, I like what #45 brings to the table, and I hope we see more of him in the future.
  • I can’t help wondering about Dan Bailey’s health. The most accurate kicker in NFL History missed two long field goals and an extra point.
  • Probably, the most concerning thing about the Cowboys today was the WR play. Once again, they failed to create separation most of the game. They must improve if Dallas wants to put up a fight against playoff teams. Zeke returning in a couple of weeks definitely will help.
  • Sean Lee finished the game with 18 total tackles, 10 of which were solo tackles. I’m still amazed by the difference we see on the defense when 50 is healthy. Welcome back, Lee. We missed you. Not to mention, Anthony Hitchens continues to make himself some money this season with another great performance.
  • The Cowboys missed David Irving, as they went sack-less today. Also, the defensive line finished the game with SIX penalties. Not what you want when you’re in win-or-go-home mode.

  1. Actually, the pass to Rod Smith is not Dak Prescott’s longest pass of his career. The screen pass Zeke Elliott took to the house against Pittsburgh last year was 83 yards.
