Christmas is supposed to be a time to celebrate with friends and family alike. Unfortunately, that celebration for Dallas Cowboys fans might have just taken a big hit after their meltdown in the afternoon matchup on Christmas Eve against the Seattle Seahawks.
It was a matchup that had immense ramifications for the playoffs for both the Cowboys and the Seahawks. Unfortunately, the Seahawks playoff hopes are still alive, but the Cowboys season has ended in one of the most disappointing fashions. So disappointing in fact that it might just ruin Christmas for a lot of fans.
There was a lot of excitement heading into the game for Cowboys fans. Ezekiel Elliott was making his return after serving his six-game suspension, which was hopefully going to get the offense back on track. Plus, things were shaping up nicely after the early games for the Dallas Cowboys to make the playoffs.
The Cowboys needed the New Orleans Saints to beat the Atlanta Falcons, which they did rather easily. The Cowboys also needed the Detroit Lions to lose and the Cincinnati Bengals were able to help with that. All the Cowboys needed to do was to put more points on the board than the Seahawks to stay in playoff contention, but the offense couldn’t have chosen a worse time to become allergic to the end zone.
I don’t know about you, but this game has put a bad taste in my mouth. In fact, I feel like telling everybody Bah Humbug instead of Merry Christmas. It’s a strange feeling for me, because I’m typically a glass half full kind of person. Forever the optimist you could say.
But, that’s just the way this season has seemed to go for the Dallas Cowboys. One instant they look like one of the better teams in the NFL, then the next look discombobulated and completely lost. Unfortunately, Dallas played like the team Cowboys fans have come to hate.
Trust me, the feeling is mutual. You shouldn’t be ashamed of how you probably feel right now about the Dallas Cowboys and their performance against the Seahawks. The Seahawks shouldn’t have won, but the Cowboys defeated themselves with poor decision-making and untimely turnovers. It’s a formula that more times than not ends in disaster.
The sad truth is the Seahawks ended the game with more penalty yards than they did with total yards on offense. And unfortunately, the Cowboys offense just weren’t able to capitalize on several trips into the red zone, instead having to settle for field goals. To make matters even worse, Dan Bailey wasn’t as automatic as he typically is.
So, even though we’re all probably angry right now, don’t let it spoil Christmas when you open your presents and discover you have been given the gift of Dallas Cowboys gear. We all just have to put this game and 2017 season behind us and hopefully focus on the positive things that happened this year. Successful or not, that’s what I’m going to try to do.
Did the Dallas Cowboys ruin your Christmas?
Bailey had at least one kickoff go to the back line of the endzone, so I don’t think the injury he had earlier in the year is affecting the leg strength. This is probably his worst jag since being a pro kicker, but he is so good I’m just hitting reset on him and assuming it goes away next year.
Those misses down the stretch were important but not really why Dallas lost IMO. It’s Dak, Dez, Linehan, Byron Bell, all the factors everyone is citing. Bottom line: the Cowboy fan had to watch his offense implode at home against a gas bag opponent, with the playoffs at stake. Despite the turnovers Dallas had ample chances to win down the stretch. Instead, it got more inept as the game went on.
I don’t see a way it’s defensible for Garrett. We have a right to declare yesterday’s product unacceptable, and Jones has to decide if he wants more of it while his years as GM grow fewer.
If smart at all, he and Stephen are talking today to Josh McDaniels, who would not have delivered the hapless offense that Linehan & Garrett did yesterday.
Btw, Cooper Rush next week. Or does Garrett find a rationale why Dak needs to start a meaningless game, while Rush can use the reps…
You play to win — always. We saw last year what playing in a so-called ‘meaningless” game and resting your starters can do.
The Eagles won’t make that same mistake — neither should we.
This is my only time bringing up Romo. Romo made games worth watching either good or bad, you KNEW he’d do everything in his power to get us a W. In a must have, must win game what does Dak do?? Go 21-34 with a grand total of 182 yards with 0 touchdowns and 2 ints. At least if you gonna lose go out in a blaze of glory but Dak can’t even do that right but he has more commercials than 300 yard games……..
I totally agree!! Hope Dak adopts that philosophy, moreover when every Dallas QB has been made accountable of delivering W’s over any other statistic of performance.
