Valley Ranch News

There is a lot of buzz going around Valley Ranch today with a few free agents and potential draft picks set to visit the Cowboys. Eric Reid of the LSU Tigers is coming to interview with the team; this is much like a normal job interview where the coaching staff will ask him a variety of questions.

Justin Durant formerly of the Detroit Lions is set for a visit as well as Michael Huff from the Raiders and Will Allen of the Buccaneers. Durant plays the outside linebacker position, normally in the role of a Will linebacker. He has great sideline to sideline speed that will help with containing running backs. I don’t foresee a long contract for Durant, it would seem as he is a stop gap for a potential draft pick to take over long-term.

Michael Huff has been explored by the Cowboys before, but ultimately re-signed with the Raiders. Huff is familiar to most Cowboys fans from his National Championship days at the University of Texas. As with most free agents who are available right now are not long-term solutions, however is worth a look to fill the open Strong Safety position.

Will Allen is by far the most interesting visitor of them all due to his familiarity of the Tampa 2 defense. He started his career in Tampa Bay in 2004, but has played his last three seasons in Pittsburgh. Allen isn’t a ball hawk in the secondary, however plays well enough for the strong safety close to the box. It will be interesting to see if any of the three get a deal today.

In other news as it relates to the Cowboys Mike Fisher, who you can follow @FishSports, has reported that the Cowboys are close to long term deals with Tony Romo and Anthony Spencer. He stated that Stephen Jones was working last night to strike a deal with Spencer. Right now Romo and Spencer combined are owed $26.6 million against the cap. We will keep you updated as new breaks regarding any finalized deals.
