The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly signed 41-year-old quarterback Jon Kitna.Giants vs. Cowboys NYDN

The Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles this upcoming Sunday to decide the NFC East division title. It was announced yesterday that Tony Romo is on day-by-day due to a back injury he suffered in Week 16.

It’s said Kitna will come out of retirement and join the Cowboys roster as the third-string quarterback. Kitna in Dallas is no new site, he spent his final three seasons in blue and white backing up Tony Romo. Despite being out of the league since 2011 it’s been said Kitna’s familiarity with the Dallas offense and coach Jason Garrett are reasons he was offered the contract.

Jerry Jones said on Monday that Romo may be cleared to play Sunday.

Jones told The Dallas Morning News’ David Moore, “All I’m saying is he has back spasms, symptoms that we’re treating as we go along in the week to see if he will play. There is nothing structurally that will rule him out if he feels good and is cleared to play. Nothing…The facts are there is a lot we can’t comment on. But the most important thing is if he feels better as the week goes along, there is nothing structurally to prevent him from playing. He might be cleared to play.”

Regardless of whether Romo will play on Sunday or not, Kitna is back in the blue and white star for now.
